the childhood of a champion

Born in the summer of 1973 in Worcester, Massachusetts, little (if anything) predestined Jason Isaac Cutler, aka Jay Cutler, to become a bodybuilding icon. His career goal was pretty clear: get his criminal law degree, which he did in 1993 at Quinsigamond Community College, and work as a corrections officer in a maximum security prison.
Jay Cutler grew up west of Boston in a small town called Sterling. The youngest of seven children (three brothers and three sisters), he spent a modest but happy youth on the family farm. From an early age, he learned the core values of hard work and discipline by helping out in the concrete construction business founded by his brothers, the Cutler Brothers Concrete Foundations. This extremely physical work certainly laid the foundation for his impressive build.

His beginnings in bodybuilding

After a lot of hard work and saving money, Jay Cutler bought his first gym membership. He had fun and enjoyed it, but didn't take it for granted that he was cut out for it. As he trained, his physique quickly grew. His meeting with trainer Marcos Rodriguez convinced him that with such muscularity and extraordinary development, bodybuilding was for him.
In one of his many interviews, he said that he had to drive several miles to get to the hall. Since he didn't have much money, he didn't always have enough fuel and he regularly broke down. It didn't matter to him that he had to finish the journey on foot. More important to him than the prospect of the return journey was the fact that he had gone to the gym to train. The hobby became a passion and the training made him aware of his potential. He started competing and won his 1stre victory in 1993, at the Iron Bodies Invitational. The machine is launched.
If you want to see the evolution of his physique from his childhood to today, I advise you to watch this amazing video in which we witness his incredible metamorphosis.

a Duel of Titans: Cutler vs Coleman

These two incredible athletes have competed against each other in several editions of Mr. Olympia. Jay was performing better and better, while Ronnie seemed to be unbeatable, with his 8 consecutive wins from 1998 to 2005. Jay consistently finished 2nde in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and won the title in 2006, preventing Ronnie from beating the record previously held by him and Lee Haney (from 1984 to 1991).

Different training methods

While Ronnie Coleman He was always working out, trying to impress with his incredible thighs, but the heavy reps and loads took their toll on his muscles. He suffered serious injuries and several major operations during his career. In his quest to always be at the top, he has left his health behind and is unfortunately paying for it today. This does not prevent him from remaining an example of fighting spirit.

We could spend hours analyzing Jay Cutler's physique. In competitive condition, his physique is pleasing to the eye. An extremely large rib cage, wide collarbones and pelvis, a great stability in the hips and impressive calves. But the part of his body that stood out was his legs, his quadriceps, which had developed much faster than the other parts of his body. One can only praise the intelligence of the athlete who knew how to recognize this. He only trained them every 10 or 15 days, precisely because they responded quickly.

Jay Cutler's training

Jay's routine, based on a lot of pyramid, volume, super sets, was as follows:

  • Monday legs;
  • Tuesday pecs abs ;
  • Wednesday rest ;
  • Thursday calf back ;
  • Friday trapezius shoulders ;
  • Saturday arm crunches and rest.

A reasoned way of operating since his strategy was to gain muscle mass.

What diet should an athlete like Jay Cutler follow?

If you watch YouTube videos or listen to him speak, you'll realize that Jay ate all the time, more than Ronnie Coleman did. One of the reasons he had a huge appetite was because if he didn't eat his meals, he automatically lost weight.
His diet consisted of 6+ meals food supplements Intraworkout: amino acids and maltodextrin and to recover after training, isolate with BCAA.
To give you an idea of its typical daily consumption, here are the details:

  • meal 1: 2 whole eggs, 15 egg whites, 40 g whey, 2 slices of bread with raisins, 160 g oatmeal;
  • meal 2: 300 g of chicken, 300 g of rice ;
  • meal 3 : 3 scoops of whey with 2 scoops of vitargo ;
  • Meal 4: 350 g of chicken, 300 g of sweet potatoes;
  • Meal 5: 300g of chicken, 300g of brown rice;
  • meal 6: 300 g of filet mignon and broccoli.

Jay Cutler: a successful businessman

Jay was able to stop his professional career in time. Today, settled in Vegas, even if he does not compete anymore, he continues to maintain his body. He does it with pleasure and with full awareness of his abilities. With his experience in weight gain and nutrition, he has built a real empire with his company Cutler nutrition. He offers quality food and nutritional supplements, for quick results in mass and volume. He has also developed his own clothing brand. In his new professional life, he applies the same philosophy that has taken him to the highest level of his sporting career: "to have the satisfaction of never being satisfied, because you always want to be better. You always want a better physique, you have to go beyond the limits."
If you want to go further and see what his life is like today, look at Day in the life of Jay Cutler.

For me, Jay Cutler remains an athlete who has had a big impact on me and whom I had the chance to meet on several occasions. At the time, I was doing demonstrations in GMC stores and vitamin shops. Jay had just created his brand. That's how I found myself doing demos at the same time as him. We were able to talk, exchange on my desire to become an IFBB pro, etc. He gave me a lot of advice and told me to be patient. When a four-time Mr. Olympia tells you that you're going to make it, I can assure you that it really motivates you! I admire the man with the exemplary career, who has been able to keep his head on his shoulders, to stop before having major health problems, to build an empire, and all the while remaining incredibly humble.
